ELT PROFESSIONAL ORGANISATIONS
Japan Association for Language Teaching
"JALT promotes excellence in language learning, teaching, and research by providing opportunities for those involved in language education to meet, share, and collaborate.
全国語学教育学会は言語教育関係者が交流・共有・協働する機会を提供し、言語学習、教育、及び調査研究の発展に寄与します。" (JALT About here)
In addition to holding its own events, GILE actively participates in 2 major JALT events each year: the PanSIG conference, held in the spring, and international conference, held in autumn.
PanSIG is an annual conference usually held in May (though 2022 will be held in July; details below), and organized by many of the Special Interest Groups (SIGs) of the Japan Association for Language Teaching (JALT). The conference brings together leading scholars and practitioners in language education from Japan, Asia, and throughout the world. It is meant to be a smaller, more intimate conference than the annual international JALT conference (which is held each fall), and is a place where SIG members can network with each other.
The Japan Association of College English Teachers
The Japan Association of College English Teachers (JACET) is a general incorporated association. Since its establishment in 1962, JACET has been striving to improve tertiary level English language education in Japan as well as promote research into language teaching and learning by offering venues for the presentation of research and its application, recognizing college teachers for meritorious work and conducting surveys of academia. With over 2,200 members, JACET is striving to improve English language education and thus contribute to the realization of a better future for our students.
"For over 50 years, the International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language, (IATEFL) has been linking, developing and supporting English language teaching professionals worldwide. From our humble origins in 1967 as a forum for English language teachers (ELT) and other professionals to make contact with one another and share ideas, we are now one of the largest and most internationally representative teaching associations in the world.
IATEFL is a global professional membership association, and a UK registered charity, and yet we remain a community. We support teachers and other ELT professionals in their professional development, and provide a platform where they can offer their views, exchange research and teaching experiences and learn from each other."
